A Guide to Everyday Bra Comfort

The bra you wear most often should probably be the one you think about the least. Factors such as fabric, band fit, straps, support construction and accurate sizing all contribute to how comfortable a bra feels over several hours.

Start With the Band

A comfortable bra starts with the band. The band should sit securely around your ribcage without riding upward at the back or feeling painfully tight. If the band continually moves, the straps often end up doing more of the work than they should.

When trying a new bra, check that: the band sits level around your body; you can move and breathe comfortably; it feels secure without digging in; it stays in place when you raise your arms.

Then Check the Cups

If your band feels right but your cups feel too small or too large, you may need a different cup size rather than a different band. This distinction is important because repeatedly increasing the band to solve a cup problem can leave you with less support.
